IMPEACHMENT upstages O.J. — for a moment — in Miami media.
South Florida Impeachment Coalition co-founder Diane Lawrence describes the scene outside of O.J. Simpson's (Fri., Sept. 21) in a letter to Channel 6 reporter:

Kerry, thank you for interviewing me and others members of the South Florida Impeachment Coalition, www.floridaimpeach.org in front of O.J.’s house yesterday. We spontaneously gathered there when we heard that the tabloid media was camped out across the street for the day. We are Americans who care about the real news: the Iraq Occupation; our sorry Congress with its 11% approval rating (Reuters) and, yes, enforcement of the Constitution with impeachment of Richard B. Cheney (H. Res. 333).

As you probably have figured out, the media is our main enemy – not the Republicans or our spineless Democrats. Our inability to get our feelings across to the public, is because of the emphasis on celebrity trash news. It’s called the “dumbing down” of America and NBC News is part of the problem.

You interviewed me and one or two other Impeachment demonstrators. But, of course, when the piece aired, you were talking to O.J.’s girlfriend and nothing was reported about our message.

We will try contacting you in the near future. We are planning demonstrations against Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Kendrick Meek because of their refusal to sign on as co-sponsors of Kucinich’s H. Res. 333 for impeachment of Cheney. We’re scared! We are being governed by psychotic chicken hawks. They have 16 more months to attack Iran. They can veto all good legislation passed by Congress (or water the legislation down with signing statements), ignore Congressional subpoenas, and maybe out another CIA agent. And then there’s 87-year-old Supreme Court Justice Paul Stevens.

If you think the impeachment movement isn’t big, just Google Impeachment. A National Impeachment Center has opened in L.A. When Congress and the administration just play politics with the help of the media, the people have to take over. We’re mad as hell and we’re not going to take it anymore.
